Dr. Jade Hunter is the newest counselor in the UNT Dallas Student Affairs office as of April 2019. She is a native of Fort Worth, Texas and is a recent Doctoral Graduate of Texas Woman’s University, where she acquired her degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is proud alumnae of The University of North Texas and an exuberant and passionate young professional with a multifaceted background in mental health and seven years of counseling experience in both acute care and private practice.
Prior to working at UNT Dallas, Jade served as Student Success Counselor at Cedar Valley College in the Dallas Community County Community College District. While there, she assisted students of diverse backgrounds to overcome both short term mental and emotional challenges. She provided individual and relationship counseling, crisis intervention, as well as campus outreach and consultation. She served as the co-chair for their Behavioral Intervention Team and gave presentations over Title IX regulations. Each of those duties were very important to her, but supporting students in a counseling setting was by far the most rewarding, which she considers to be the true coupling of passion and purpose. Jade is dedicated to assisting students to overcome challenges in their personal lives to help them be successful college students. Her clinical interests include depression, anxiety, family conflict, relationship issues, and academic concerns. Jade’s favorite quote is by Desmond Tutu, which reads, “We are each made for goodness, love and compassion. Our lives are transformed as much as the world is when we live by those truths.” Jade is overjoyed to serve students on the UNT-Dallas Student Affairs team and is committed to being a collaborative and supportive team member to ensure that the students of UNT-Dallas are equipped with what they need to blaze their own trail.
